Last night, we got a sneak peek at the Imagineering: Horizons exhibit at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, and there was SO much to take in!
Levitating droids are here!
If you’ve been excited about the levitating droids on their way to Galaxy’s Edge, you’ll be thrilled to hear this update. We got a look at what those levitating droids may look like working behind the snack cart, and were VERY impressed!
At the Imagineering: Horizons exhibit, which officially opens to the public today on the first official day of D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, we got a look at Hugo’s Sweets & Fizz, which is the snack cart Disney has previously talked about bringing the levitating droids to. While we didn’t see droids behind it this time, we did get to see Grogu bouncing around, helping to get people’s “orders” ready to go.
Hugo’s Sweets & Fizz
From what we were able to see, Grogu would pop up and move around behind the counter. In front of him, we watched fake burgers move across the counter, as if he was controlling their movement with the Force. Three Galaxy’s Edge drinks also did the same, and even lowered below the counter on a trap door!

In case you missed the announcement back in July, Bloomberg got a look at some of the new technology Disney had been working on, and one of the projects was a series of floating droids that would work alongside snack carts to add additional immersion to spaces like Galaxy’s Edge. The snack carts are inspired by ones seen in the film The Mandalorian and Grogu that released earlier this year, hence likely why we see Grogu behind the counter in this example.
Super unique!
How exactly do they work? Well, the droids hover over a stationary food truck as if it were a stage. Guests will be able to order a few different soda options from a mobile app and then pick them up at the cart. The droids also have programming to put on a little “show” depending on what you order. For example, if you only buy one drink, the droid may act lonely!
Oh boy, planning a Disney trip can be quite the adventure, and we totally get it! But fear not, dear friends, we compiled EVERYTHING you need (and the things to avoid!) to plan the ULTIMATE Disney vacation.

Disney is working to make its parks even MORE technologically advanced in the coming years.
Galaxy’s Edge
We’ve seen groundbreaking animatronics and innovative rides, but the goal is to step up and do MORE before Disneyland Abu Dhabi opens down the line, as that park is going to be Disney’s most technologically-advanced yet. As part of that initiative, Disneyland Park will soon be getting snack carts operated by hovering droids!
A little while back, we shared that Disney was working on a project to create snack carts with hovering droids that would be used for Star Wars areas in the future. These snack carts are inspired by a similar one featured in The Mandalorian and Grogu movie that released in theaters earlier this year, and were developed in conjunction with filmmaker Jon Favreau’s production department.

Disney’s team plans to showcase this new snack cart at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event on August 14th-16th, 2026. From there, they hope to potentially debut the cart in Disneyland Resort by the end of the year, likely in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

We can’t wait to see this technology in action and report back on exactly how it operates. We have a feeling this would be a rather popular addition to Star Wars spaces in the parks!

Southern California summers are always hot, but they somehow still manage to take us by surprise. The last few weeks, though, the heat has also scared away some of the crowds. Add in the fact that many Magic Key holders are currently blocked out, and the parks have been relatively quiet… but Halloween is creeping […]
As spring break continues (and with summer right around the corner), Disneyland is extremely busy. And all those guests arrived despite higher ticket prices during school vacations and several major rides closed for refurbishment, including Jungle Cruise and both Toy Story-themed attractions. Still, Bluey continues to attract families with preschoolers to Disneyland (even if they […]
For the first time ever, when it debuts in 2025, you’ll actually be able to see Walt Disney through the magic of Audio-Animatronics technology in “Walt Disney – A Magical Life.”
Walt Disney Imagineering’s first Audio-Animatronics figure of Walt Disney is being created for this very special experience. “I speak for our entire team when I say there is so much pride and excitement for everyone involved in this endeavor,” Josh D’Amaro told the crowd.
The past, present and future are coming together, giving visitors the chance to imagine what it would be like to stop by Walt’s office. Who knows what he might be dreaming up inside? Only time will tell with Walt.
“Walt Disney – A Magical Life” will debut inside the Main Street Opera House, and after its initial run, the attraction will play in rotation with “Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln.” A fitting acknowledgment of Walt’s significant advances with Audio-Animatronics about 60 years ago when he first introduced the groundbreaking technology.
