Tips for Disneyland in the Summer

Explore at a Relaxed Pace with Multi-Day Vacations

Consider planning a multi-day Disneyland vacation of three days or more, which provides time to explore the resort at a relaxed pace and take breaks in between.

The Hotels of the Disneyland Resort are just steps away from the theme parks, making it convenient to take breaks in the room (or go for a swim at the pool!) when staying on property.

Disneyland Resort Summer Tiana's Bayou Adventure
Disneyland Resort Summer Grizzly River Run
Disneyland Resort Summer Walt Disney a Magical Life

Stay Cool at Disneyland Resort This Summer

If you’re like me and love a good water ride on a summer day, “drop on in” Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at Disneyland or venture through the wild waters of Grizzly River Run in California Adventure.

Both Disneyland and California Adventure offer a number of indoor, air-conditioned attractions. Locate them in the Disneyland app by selecting the “Indoor” filter on the map. Some of my favorites are “Walt Disney – A Magical Life” at Disneyland and Mickey’s PhilharMagic at California Adventure.

Another great location for an indoor break, the Tomorrowland Theater in Disneyland will play Pixar short films for a limited time beginning May 22.

Bring a reusable water bottle and fill up throughout the day at complimentary bottle-filling stations. A map of bottle-filling stations can be viewed on Disneyland.com.

Schedule meals and snack times in the afternoon, when temperatures may be warmer. Many table-service and quick-service restaurants across the resort offer indoor seating, including Golden Horseshoe at Disneyland, Lamplight Lounge at California Adventure, and Goofy’s Kitchen at the Disneyland Hotel. Advanced reservations are highly recommended for table-service restaurants.

Save Time with Lightning Lane Access

With the purchase of Lighting Lane passes, you can save time waiting in the standby line and instead join a shorter line for select attractions. Visit Disneyland.com for information about the different Lightning Lane passes available for purchase.

Guests checked in and staying at one of the Disneyland Resort hotels can take advantage of one complimentary Lightning Lane entry per registered guest to an available Lightning Lane Multi Pass attraction during their resort stay. More information is available on Disneyland.com.

Dine at Disneyland Resort Hotels

Did you know some of the most delicious dining at the Disneyland Resort can be found at its hotels? Panelists Tara and Adrianna tackle another frequently-asked question: “Where can I eat at the Hotels of the Disneyland Resort?”

If you’re looking for something fast, quick-service spots make it easy to grab a casual meal on the go. Tangaroa Terrace Tropical Bar & Grill at Disneyland Hotel, GCH Craftsman Grill at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, and The Sketch Pad Café at Pixar Place Hotel are favorites for tasty, convenient bites.

For families craving a sit-down meal with extra Disney magic, character dining is the way to go. At Goofy’s Kitchen inside the Disneyland Hotel, you’ll find an all-you-care-to-enjoy buffet with plenty of Disney characters stopping by to join the fun. Over at Storytellers Cafe in Disney’s Grand Californian, seasonal character dining experiences bring a fun twist, from special outfits to festive touches throughout the year.

And for those extra-special moments, signature lounges offer the perfect way to elevate your visit. Hearthstone Lounge offers fantastic food plus an extensive whiskey library, while Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar at Disneyland Hotel is a great place to sip and savor in a more laid-back atmosphere.

Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa is an upscale retreat in the heart of Anaheim with an architectural style reminiscent of the Arts and Crafts movement of early 20th century California. Designed to capture the artistic exploration of California’s coastlines with its Monterey pines and redwood forests, the hotel is layered with the memories of the arroyo craftsmen, the mission pioneers, and the plein air school of painters.

From spa treatments to sparkling pools and culinary delights, also noteworthy is this hotel’s exceptional location with direct access to Disney California Adventure park* and the Downtown Disney District.

The Disneyland Hotel, which opened in 1955, pays tribute to the early days of Disneyland through each of three towers with distinct themes. The main lobby in the Fantasy Tower showcases Mary Blair artwork connecting to “it’s a small world,” while the Frontier Tower has a scale model of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, and the Adventure Tower has Jungle Cruise characters incorporated into the design.
