From new outfits for some of your favorite characters to deviously delightful décor, you won’t want to miss all the frightful excitement when Halloween Time returns to Disneyland Resort from August 21 through October 31, 2026.

Before spooky season begins, you can also continue to enjoy “Paint the Night” parade and “Wondrous Journeys” in Disneyland park for a limited time from August 10-20, 2026. Plus, “World of Color – ONE” will return to Disney California Adventure park for a limited time beginning August 10 through the Halloween season.

Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, and their pals will arrive in Town Square with new attire just for season, featuring harlequin motifs, frilled collars and cuffs, and swirling confection details in hues of orange, yellow, and black.

Make way for a very special guy as Jack Skellington returns to the Haunted Mansion, transforming the eerie estate into Haunted Mansion Holiday. You’ll spot (and scent) an impressive gingerbread house with an all-new design in the ballroom, plus familiar faces including Sally, Zero, and Oogie Boogie from Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Snap the perfect fall photo in front of the storied Halloween Tree in Frontierland or spot a gourd with a Disney-inspired carving at the Main Street Pumpkin Festival, anchored by the iconic giant Mickey Mouse pumpkin. You may even spot a new addition to the ring of pumpkins surrounding the Partners Statue, paying homage to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge with depictions of Chewbacca and the Millennium Falcon.

Vindictive villains take over Sleeping Beauty Castle, Main Street, U.S.A., “it’s a small world,” and the Rivers of America with colorful projections during the “Halloween Screams” nighttime spectacular each evening. Maleficent, Ursula, and other favorite fiends cackle in the sky to a medley of macabre music, plus on select nights, watch as fireworks possess the sky.

For those looking for an extra experience, Disney’s Happiest Haunts Guided Tour is a one-of-a-kind stroll through eerie tales across Disneyland and California Adventure, available at an additional cost with valid theme park admission.

At Disney California Adventure park, a festive chill arrives with decor that includes Oogie Boogie silhouetted by a full moon, a cloud of “bats” bursting from the tower of Carthay Circle Restaurant, and the Headless Horseman statue welcoming guests on Buena Vista Street.

Cars Land will become the “fa-boo-lous” Radiator Screams, complete with “car-achnids,” a “pump-kin” patch, and residents dressed in their favorite “car-stumes.” Take a break from your stroll through town with a spin on Mater’s Graveyard JamBOOree and Luigi’s Honkin’ Haul-O-Ween.

• Supernatural spirits will take over Cars Land each evening for a haunting “Sha-BOO” moment, where the neon lights flicker on and illuminate the roads.

Beginning in the late afternoon each day, Guardians of the Galaxy – Monsters After Dark takes over the Collector’s Fortress in Avengers Campus. You’ll team up with Rocket to distract menacing monsters on the loose and save Groot. But be warned… you may run into a few unexpected ups and downs.

Little ones ready to dance to Halloween tunes, play with bubbles, and hang out with Mickey Mouse and his pals will love “Mickey’s Trick and Treat” at the Disney Theater in Hollywood Land, beginning August 18.

The wickedly wonderful fun continues with tempting treats, “boo-tiful” merchandise, and autumnal touches in Disneyland, California Adventure, and regions beyond.

During Halfway to Halloween in April, we gave you a taste of some of the treats that will return this fall, including the Oogie Boogie Lemonade from Smokejumpers Grill and Heatwave Pizza from Alien Pizza Planet.

Storytellers Cafe at Disney’s Grand Californian will host Mickey’s Autumn Adventures for breakfast and brunch and Clarabelle’s Enchanted Halloween Dinner in the evenings. At Disneyland Hotel, Goofy’s Kitchen Celebrates Halloween will offer fun-filled dining throughout the day.

Plus, adults 21 years and over may enjoy a Halloween-themed cocktail menu at Broken Spell Lounge in Disneyland Hotel.

Celebrate the everlasting bonds of family and the spirit of Día de los Muertos with nods to Pixar’s Coco during Plaza de la Familia at Disney California Adventure park, August 21 through November 2, 2026.

Let the music move you during “The Storytellers of Plaza de la Familia Celebrate the Musical World of Coco!” as a traveling troupe of storytellers bring songs like “Remember Me” and “The World Es Mi Familia” to life. You’ll also be able to sing and dance along to live mariachi music at the Paradise Garden Bandstand.

When you walk through Paradise Gardens Park, take in the vibrant marigold arch, striking calaca (skeleton) statues, and a memory wall, where you can add a note of remembrance for loved ones.

Paradise Garden Grill will offer specialty menu items just for the season, including the returning Chilaquiles Carnitas Torta with red chilaquiles, refried beans, avocado spread, queso fresco, pickled red onions, and a fried egg served with chips. Décor influenced by Día de los Muertos will also be found in a vibrant installation in Disneyland near Rancho del Zocalo Restaurante, displaying skeleton figurines known as catrinas and calacas, colorful marigolds, and other items that are traditionally found on ofrendas.

This after-hours party for all ages is the perfect opportunity to don an iconic costume, collect candy, and enjoy access to select attractions, often with shorter wait times. The event goes from 6 p.m. through 11 p.m. and admission includes entry to California Adventure three hours before the party officially begins, plus unlimited Disney PhotoPass digital photo downloads from the party.

“Madame Leota’s Swinging Wake – A Haunted Mansion Street Party” will bring familiar and iconic moments from the Haunted Mansion to the streets of California Adventure. The new street party will feature multiple show-stopping moments for Madame Leota to host her spirited séance and swinging wake filled with happy haunts, ghostly dancing, and ghoulish delight, inviting you to partake in a ghastly good time that beckons all 999 ghosts.

You may also choose to purchase the Oogie Boogie Bash Dessert Party for an enhanced viewing of the street party, which will feature a new selection of treats themed to Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas. More details will become available and reservations will open on Disneyland.com later this summer.

You may also encounter not-often-seen villains and Disney characters dressed up for Halloween throughout California Adventure. And you won’t want to miss trick-or-treating along immersive treat trails and a selection of themed bites available just for the party.

Stroll through dreamlike scenes in Villains Grove, where Redwood Creek Challenge Trail will transform into an enchanted world inspired by Disney villains like the Queen of Hearts and Dr. Facilier.

At select times throughout the evening, Ichabod Crane hurries through California Adventure evading the sinister specter of the Headless Horseman astride his dark steed.

“Celebrate Soulfully: Summer Vibes” begins on June 19 at the Disneyland Resort! This limited-time celebration showcases experiences that celebrate Black heritage and culture through music, food, and art through July 19. One of these food items, the Pineapple Upside Down Bundt Cake from Plaza Inn, is available early starting today, and we’re sharing the recipe with you!

Chef Michela Gilchrist created this recipe with some inspiration from her grandfather. She said his cooking is special to her because “every recipe carries the love, culture, and tradition that shaped who I am today.”

Through his recipes, Chef Michela inherited more than flavors. She inherited tradition, identity, and love. In her grandfather’s kitchen, she learned that “every recipe tells a story, and those stories became part of who I am.”

Though popularized in the 20th century, pineapple upside-down cake became beloved in many Black households because it transformed simple and affordable ingredients into something that felt joyful and abundant. Served at Sunday dinners, holidays, family gatherings, and reunions, it became more than dessert. It became a sweet expression of community.

This recipe makes 12 individual cakes, which makes it great for sharing or taking to summer parties. The pineapple juice in the cake batter adds tenderness to the texture of the cake and just the right amount of sweetness. If you’re using canned pineapple in the topping, save the juice when draining the pineapple and add it to the batter.

A new mission with The Mandalorian and Grogu on Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run debuts May 22, the same day as the new film, Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu in theaters and IMAX. Join Din Djarin, the mysterious Mandalorian bounty hunter, and his youngling Grogu as they track down elusive ex-Imperial officers throughout the galaxy.

For a limited time, celebrate the release of the film by catching Grogu as he tests his power to recall fond memories of his adventures with The Mandalorian in “The Curious Child” playing after “Shadows of Memory: A Skywalker Saga.” These nightly stunning projection effects transform the spires of Batuu near the Millennium Falcon, taking you on a storytelling adventure across the galaxy.

The event is the kickoff to “Celebrate Soulfully: Summer Vibes,” a limited-time celebration beginning June 19 through July 19, showcasing experiences that celebrate Black heritage and culture through music, food, and art at the Disneyland Resort.

Enjoy Summer Vibes Concerts in the Park on select days at the Paradise Garden Bandstand in California Adventure, presenting live acts across a variety of genres including Top 40, Jazz, Caribbean, Zydeco, and more. On Fridays and Saturdays, Paradise Gardens will feature special character greeting opportunities and live variety acts.

Pop on over to the effervescent Bubbles Experience at Downtown Disney District, every day from July 10 through August 16. Bubbles will fill the air around the Downtown Disney LIVE! Stage and lawn at select times in the afternoons and evenings, accompanied by a fun photo opportunity.

Consider planning a multi-day Disneyland vacation of three days or more, which provides time to explore the resort at a relaxed pace and take breaks in between.

The Hotels of the Disneyland Resort are just steps away from the theme parks, making it convenient to take breaks in the room (or go for a swim at the pool!) when staying on property.

If you’re like me and love a good water ride on a summer day, “drop on in” Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at Disneyland or venture through the wild waters of Grizzly River Run in California Adventure.

Both Disneyland and California Adventure offer a number of indoor, air-conditioned attractions. Locate them in the Disneyland app by selecting the “Indoor” filter on the map. Some of my favorites are “Walt Disney – A Magical Life” at Disneyland and Mickey’s PhilharMagic at California Adventure.

Another great location for an indoor break, the Tomorrowland Theater in Disneyland will play Pixar short films for a limited time beginning May 22.

Bring a reusable water bottle and fill up throughout the day at complimentary bottle-filling stations. A map of bottle-filling stations can be viewed on Disneyland.com.

Schedule meals and snack times in the afternoon, when temperatures may be warmer. Many table-service and quick-service restaurants across the resort offer indoor seating, including Golden Horseshoe at Disneyland, Lamplight Lounge at California Adventure, and Goofy’s Kitchen at the Disneyland Hotel. Advanced reservations are highly recommended for table-service restaurants.

With the purchase of Lighting Lane passes, you can save time waiting in the standby line and instead join a shorter line for select attractions. Visit Disneyland.com for information about the different Lightning Lane passes available for purchase.

Guests checked in and staying at one of the Disneyland Resort hotels can take advantage of one complimentary Lightning Lane entry per registered guest to an available Lightning Lane Multi Pass attraction during their resort stay. More information is available on Disneyland.com.

Tucked away at the Disneyland Hotel inside the Disneyland Resort, this lively hideaway has become a destination all on its own, where every visit feels like stepping into an ongoing story filled with adventure, humor, unexpected surprises, and many of the puns you’ve come to know and love.

The world-famous Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar (where it’s world famous for being famous around the world) always has something new to uncover, with one-of-a-kind mugs, delicious drinks, hearty dishes, and an assortment of untold stories waiting to be discovered.

As the story goes, in 1938, Dr. Leonard Moss (a botanist) and Dr. Kon Chunosuke (an entomologist and dedicated member of the Society of Explorers and Adventurers, also known as S.E.A.) were journeying up the Nile River in Northern Africa aboard the Mekong Maiden.

Diligently adding their scientific findings to a shared expedition field notebook filled to the brim with key discoveries that would truly go on for Niles and Niles and Niles, the trip was going well with the notoriously unlucky Skipper Felix at the helm… until it suddenly wasn’t.

Accompanied by fellow colleagues Rosa Soto Dominguez (an accomplished artist) and Siobhan “Puffin” Murphy (the second cousin of Alberta Falls, the ambitious leader of the thriving Jungle Navigation Company), the group was forced to shore after a confrontation with some feisty hippos. Subsequently attacked by a black rhinoceros and chased straight up a tree, much to the delight of some nearby laughing hyenas, the group’s field notebook was suddenly lost until it was recovered by Trader Sam, who was instantly captivated by the discoveries inside.

Trader Sam’s Fun Fact:

• The name Rosa Soto Dominguez is a nod to the Dominguez family that owned some of the land that would later become the Disneyland Resort. Their family palm tree still stands – stop by to see the tree outside of the Jungle Cruise boathouse in Adventureland after some food and drinks at Trader Sam’s!

Having been recently bitten by the bartending bug, Trader Sam took to deciphering the content within the notebook, having the sudden idea to create truly amazing concoctions from their notes. Hand-drawn sketches and notes decorated the inside of the notebook, inspiring elements of Sam’s new establishment.

Today, Trader Sam’s features specialty drinks with a tropical theme and flavor, with stunning effects bringing the room to life. Cast members with humor and lightheartedness reminiscent of Jungle Cruise skippers have been trusted by Sam with his most valuable secret recipes, and it’s their job to make sure you enjoy each one of the adventurous drinks brought to your seat during your expedition to this bewitching tiki bar.

• Indiana Jones is not only a world-famous archaeologist rocking the world’s most recognizable fedora, but a friend of Trader Sam! Legend has it Professor Jones has made many stops to Trader Sam’s in his globetrotting expeditions around the world, most notably to celebrate his monumental discovery of the Temple of the Forbidden Eye (sadly, Temples A through H were already taken).

Trader Sam’s has been delighting passionate guests and plenty of thirsty explorers since it debuted in 2011, serving up inventive drinks and memorable moments for 15 years.

Alongside its playful effects and captivating atmosphere, the lounge has built a devoted following thanks to its ever-evolving lineup of collectible mugs for purchase, including the latest Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar 15th Anniversary Hyena Mug (served with the Barrel of Mischief cocktail), available at the location on May 30 or through the early mobile order release on May 29!

But the story of these mugs traces back even further. In fact, the memorable establishment of Don the Beachcomber in 1933 (a Polynesian-themed bar and restaurant in Tinseltown) helped usher in a new era of dining and drinking in Southern California.

This Hollywood hotspot introduced legendary drinks such as the Navy Grog, Three Dots and a Dash, and yes, the Zombie, while also inspiring a distinctive style of presentation through elaborately designed drinkware. Over time, these creative mugs became a signature element of the experience, influencing bars and restaurants across the greater Los Angeles region and setting the stage for the collectible culture fans love today.

Over the years, the bar has released a wide collection of mugs that draw deep inspiration from Disney storytelling, adventure lore, and the classic tiki design elements. From the Jungle Cruise-inspired Congo Queen mug from 2021 to the elusive Jack Skellington Halloween mug from 2015, these pieces have become must-haves for collectors and fans alike.

The Disneyland Hotel architecture is mid-century modern, which happens to be the same time period that saw such a popular growth in the tiki culture in America. With this, the exterior of Trader Sam’s takes its design cue from this 1950s-era tiki motif, blending in a dose of Disney DNA that has been very popular at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort at Walt Disney World and at Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room in Disneyland park.

Seating is available both indoors and outdoors, and stepping inside reveals a richly layered environment packed with detail. Bamboo-lined interiors frame the bar setting, while shelves filled with artifacts and walls decorated with photos from Trader Sam’s legendary travels bring the setting to life. Each piece adds to the sense that you’ve stumbled into a well-worn outpost at the center of countless stories.

As you take it all in, you’ll quickly notice that the experience extends far beyond just the decor. Cast members (channeling the quick wit of former or retired Jungle Cruise skippers) bring an added level of energy to the space, serving up drinks alongside playful puns and well-timed surprises. With Easter eggs, visual gags, and interactive moments, Trader Sam’s rewards those who take a closer look and turn each visit into its own small adventure.

• For all the Jungle Cruise enthusiasts out there: look out for a collection of actual 1950s photographs of the Jungle Cruise and a life ring from the Magdalena Maiden, one of the retired Jungle Cruise boats.

We know that the decor scattered throughout Trader Sam’s, which is made up of trinkets and treasures that Sam has collected throughout his travels, inspires the spirit of the space, but the menu is also influenced by his enchanting journeys. The physical menus are even meant to look like the found field notebook with a worn brown cover, more proof of the impeccable attention to detail and commitment to the visual storytelling.

Sam has searched the Amazon, Congo, Mystic Point, and Polynesia looking for ingredients that he could mix into his magical libations, ready to lure in travelers looking for a tropical treat. The drinks are a reflection of his many adventures, using unique flavors to create richly themed, refreshing elixirs for fellow explorers. Peyton’s personal favorite picks include the Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Rum or the Angolada, and Maura favors any of the fun non-alcoholic specialty beverages like the Polynesian Punch or Skipper Sipper. Trader Sam’s also offers beer, hard seltzer, and wine depending on what creations are calling to you during your visit.

• There are a ton of great choices on the menu. One delightful drink for a refreshing sip on a warm summer day is the Piranha Pool, featuring strawberry vodka, crème of coconut, strawberry purée, and pineapple juice. It’s a cold drink suitable for a sunny So Cal day at the Disneyland Resort, but remember: real rewards await those who choose wisely.

Looking to secure a seat at Trader Sam’s? Trader Sam’s is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner – so early risers, night owls, and anyone in between can enjoy this spot.

Trader Sam’s Tips:

• If you’re a culinary enthusiast whose focus is more on the food and drinks rather than the interior decor, the outdoor tables give you access to the same full menu and may have a shorter wait time.

If you have to wait for a table, you can set off to shop and sightsee throughout the Disneyland Hotel or Downtown Disney District – no theme park ticket or reservation needed.

Since Trader Sam’s is located at the Disneyland Hotel, those looking to visit do not require a Disneyland Resort theme park ticket or reservation for the day in order to drop in. This experience is also open to anyone, not just those staying at the Disneyland Hotel.

Trader Sam’s can be a late-night pit stop after a fun-filled park day, or a destination of its own for drinking and dining – you’re in control of your destiny here! Keep in mind that the experience is limited to 90 minutes per party, so plan accordingly.

Trader Sam’s welcomes wanderers of all ages to the indoor area until 8:00 p.m., and after that time the area becomes restricted to voyagers 21 years of age and over. Visitors 21 years of age or older planning to consume alcoholic beverages should have a valid government ID on hand with their other essentials. Please note that there is a limit to two of these drinks per person per transaction.

While cocktails and other alcoholic beverages are a highlight of this experience (and something Sam is quite proud of), there are plenty of provisions and no-booze brews for all to sip on.

As you’ve likely already learned, Trader Sam’s is not your typical tiki bar. When seated in the enclosed indoor area, you can expect dim lighting, flashing lights, high activity, and moments of loud noises – all helping to create a magical ambiance. The cozy hideaway can quickly morph into a frenzied, fiery space, with certain orders prompting extra thrills and theatrics.

This sipper was first unveiled at Destination D23, and we are so excited to see it hitting the shelves on April 28. What happens when The Greatest Show in Sports takes over The Happiest Place on Earth? A fast-paced day full of nonstop fun, Disney magic, and a bit of baseball! The Savannah Bananas have landed in SoCal, and delighted fans yesterday at Disneyland Resort with their signature spectacle of choreography, comedy, and crowd-pleasing entertainment.

For those in attendance, the split-tacular schedule was jam-packed with lively performances, player interactions, special surprise moments, and lots of themed merchandise or banana-flavored bites and beverages to enjoy. It was a true taste of what makes Banana Ball such a sensation, being a spontaneous, joy-filled show where absolutely anything can happen.

Among the standout stars of the day was Derek Klena, who joined the Bananas for the 2026 season as an entertainment player and pitcher, bringing his own theatrical flair and powerhouse stage presence to a team known for their distinctive mix of athleticism and showmanship.

We caught up with Derek ahead of the team’s visit to talk about how Disney Parks influenced his impressive Broadway career, what it’s like stepping onto the field with the Savannah Bananas, and how this day at Disneyland felt like coming home to his Southern California roots.

For many Southern California residents, Disneyland is a formative piece of childhood, and that was certainly the case for Derek, who grew up not far from Anaheim in West Covina, California. He recalls Disneyland Resort as a place where he spent much of his time in those early years thanks to annual passes gifted by his grandparents, enjoying endless magical moments alongside his two younger siblings and parents.

When asked about any favorite Disneyland traditions from his childhood, Derek mentioned parades as something that were always a must-see and remain one of his most treasured components of any Disney day.

Adventureland and New Orleans Square are two of his favorite areas throughout the parks. He remembers many nights hurrying to Pirates of the Caribbean and Indiana Jones Adventure just before park close, and called the Enchanted Tiki Room a “staple of childhood.” And he loves hopping on the Disneyland Railroad at Mickey’s Toontown (especially after a long day of walking; I know we’ve all been there) to ride to the front of the park, of course traveling back in time to see the dinosaurs along the way!

Derek’s Disneyland Resort Must-Do’s

• Attractions: Indiana Jones Adventure, Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, and Toy Story Midway Mania!

Derek had many Disney touchpoints outside of the parks through his childhood, naming Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Hercules and The Hunchback of Notre Dame as two of his most-watched animated films that still inspire and influence him today as an artist. He even recalled Disney’s Sing-Along Songs on VHS being one of his most vivid early memories and interactions with Disney music.

His love for Disney of course also started on stage, with Disney’s Beauty and the Beast at the old Shubert Theatre in Los Angeles being the first professional show he ever saw. He shared that this was the first time his mom noticed that both he and his sister had an interest in music, which prompted her to enroll them in classes and local theatre. How fitting, as the current reimagined touring production of Beauty and the Beast is set to stop in Los Angeles this summer — maybe it will change the course of someone’s career like it did Derek’s.

That performance of Beauty and the Beast sparked something in Derek, who began taking voice and dance lessons shortly afterwards. He eventually started performing with local children’s theaters in Southern California, doing multiple shows a year as part of these community theatre groups, which allowed him to explore and develop this passion from a young age. He soon began auditioning for productions throughout the region, fondly remembering his mom searching for casting calls in magazines.

Derek said that his Disney beginnings — especially watching shows like “Fantasmic!” and “Mickey and the Magical Map” — gave him his lifelong love for music and inspired him to pursue this path seriously.

If you’re a theatre fan (like me), you may recognize Derek from any number of shows that he has done throughout his career. He originated roles in acclaimed productions such as Dogfight, The Bridges of Madison County, Anastasia, and Jagged Little Pill, playing a role for which he received a Tony Award nomination. Derek also went on to join beloved shows on the Great White Way like Wicked and Moulin Rouge, solidifying his status as a bright Broadway star.

But theatre isn’t Derek’s only interest. He also grew up loving sports and attended UCLA where he played college baseball. He remembers attending games at Angel Stadium as a child, even pitching in a high school championship game that took place there his senior year. Another memorable moment, knowing that the Savannah Bananas are playing two games there this week.

It wasn’t always easy to find the balance between these ventures, though, and there came a time when he needed to decide between pitching on the field or performing on the stage. Even though he chose the latter, Derek has now found his way back to baseball by way of the Savannah Bananas.

This is as full circle as it gets for Derek, seeing how all of his different passions shaped his path and led him to this opportunity with the Savannah Bananas. I asked if he could have ever imagined that his skills and interests would converge in this way, and Derek’s answer? His 13-year-old self-manifested this dream coming true.

He shared that as a young teenager, he was featured on a television program showcasing America’s most talented children, and in his introduction proudly stated that his goal was to play professional baseball and sing the National Anthem before the game. There’s the classic Disney Channel dilemma that you must choose between music and sports (looking at you, Troy Bolton), but Derek now gets to experience the best of both worlds after simply speaking it into existence all those years ago.

Derek said that the possibilities feel endless as part of the Savannah Bananas, and he has shared this mindset with students that he mentors and teaches. His successes are proof you can pursue both athletics and the arts, with the Bananas merging both worlds in an unexpected way and continuing to push the boundaries of entertainment.

And his whole family was in town for the Savannah Bananas Day at Disneyland, including his two children, one of whom celebrated their first Disney Park visit on this trip! Derek shared, “To have them all watch me live both my passions in one place that is already so special and sentimental, now playing Banana Ball, it’s kind of surreal.”

When talking about how this role of a lifetime came to be, Derek credits Broadway composers Benj Pasek and Justin Paul as the ones who pitched him to Savannah Bananas owner Jesse Cole, believing that he had the necessary combination of attributes and experiences to represent the team.

Knowing that Derek had played college baseball and had an extensive resume of theatre credits, Jesse invited him to send in a taped audition and then later travel to Savannah, where he showed off his knack for both pitching and performing. And as you may have guessed, the rest is history.

The Savannah Bananas are not your traditional baseball team — there is a blend of elements like theatricality, fan engagement, and specific rules that make games a dynamic, joyful spectacle. As our conversation came to a close, I was curious to ask Derek why he believed Disneyland feels like the right place for the Bananas to again bring this energy and unique form of entertainment.

“Disneyland originated being The Happiest Place on Earth, and I feel like that’s what we’re trying to do with Banana Ball,” he explained. “That is what’s so admirable about Disneyland or any Disney Park, really, is creating an atmosphere that feels safe and inventive, where you can dream big and be accepted, where you can have fun and everybody leaves with a smile. And I feel like that is the environment we are creating, that’s what we have strived towards with the fan-first mentality.”

Whether it’s spectators in stadium seats or audience members at a Broadway show, Derek is using his talents to create happiness and encourage others to chase even the biggest of dreams, which feels perfectly aligned with everything we do here at Disney. His story serves as a reminder that anything is possible, and seeing him bring his love of performance to a whole new stage at Disneyland this week alongside his Bananas teammates was an unforgettable experience.

These talented, aquatic-loving cast members share a passion for maintaining the mechanical systems that sit leagues beneath the surface, ensuring the ride remains safe and reliable for guests to enjoy.

“I was a machinist at Matterhorn for two and a half years. Then someone came through one day and asked if anybody wanted to learn how to dive,” shares longtime Disneyland diver and Walt Disney Legacy Award recipient Ken Posey, recalling his early days at the resort. “I said, ‘I’ll do it,’ and soon after I started scuba training before moving to work at Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage.”

Although he began his Disney days on dry land, Ken quickly fell in love with the unique opportunity to put his passion for solving mechanical puzzles to the test in an underwater world many people never see the depths of. “People don’t realize there are even divers at Disneyland,” Ken says. Years later, the extensive diving skills he learned on the job inspired him to explore some of the world’s most unexpected places, including Australia’s Great Barrier Reef.

At minimum, two members of the diving team swim through the lagoon waters every night, surveying the attraction for anything that might look out of place.

Depending on the night, the team may replace a light fixture, install a new show element, or support a multifaceted ride refurbishment, all while navigating the buoyant environment.

“We’re trying to keep whatever the engineers design operating properly,” explains beloved Disneyland diving team member Dave Fisher. “If the attraction is deviating from that, whether it’s a safety precaution or a show element, we’re going to find a way to fix it.”

For Dave, diving at the Disneyland Resort is a privilege that continues to baffle him, even 25 years into his Disney journey. “I get paid to dive,” he says with a wide smile. His passion for underwater exploration began as a hobby in the 1980s, when a friend encouraged him to take a class for fun. Ever since discovering the Disneyland diving team, Dave has been hooked on the feeling of bringing smiles to guests’ faces using a skill he wholeheartedly loves.

“We want anyone who comes here, even a 2-year-old who spots Nemo, to be happy,” Dave says. “We want to make the ride safe and give guests the best experience we can.”

The next time you climb down the yellow research submarine operated by the Nautical Exploration and Marine Observation Institute (N.E.M.O.), don’t forget the skilled team of cast members who use their fins every night to ensure your vessel remains safe, and that the story swims on.

Disney and Pixar’s Hoppers is now in theaters, with its energetic spirit popping up across Disney Experiences, including drawing experiences, art galleries, festival displays, new merchandise, and so much more.

One of the latest examples? For a limited time, Mabel’s Seek & Find activity at the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail invites guests to explore, climb, and swing during a playful wilderness adventure for all ages in Disney California Adventure park at Disneyland Resort.

Here’s the rundown of the fun: by “hopping” into your favorite animal, get set to explore the entirety of the trail and complete several challenges to bring all the animals back to the glade. Once you’ve completed all the tasks in the area, return to the front of the attraction and exchange your pencil for a prize (a Hoppers-themed sticker) with a cast member.

Ready to hop in on the fun? Follow along with my latest exploration at the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail at Disney California Adventure.

Upon entering, a friendly cast member handed me a pencil to borrow, laid down the pond rules, and gave me a choice of four different maps depicting four different characters: King George, Insect Queen, Ellen Bear, and Tom Lizard. Of course, I went with the star of the moment and chose Tom Lizard’s seek-and-find activity, which set me on my way with a sharpened pencil and a new, keepsake map in hand.

Stepping inside the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail around 4 p.m. allowed for a friendly mix of shade and sunlight tucked beneath a canopy of trees, as I set off with my new map and spotted the first familiar face, King George (voiced by Bobby Moynihan in the film).

Several of the challenges were located at the beginning of the trail, checking a few boxes that led me to have even more free time to explore the serene setting:

• Challenge #1: Weather Station (Find the temperature reading at the weather station)
• Challenge #2: Turn the Dial (High frequency levels are harmful to the animals; turn the dial to bring the animals back to the glade)
• Challenge #3: Explore (Spot the Reptile Queens)

The Redwood Creek Challenge Trail allows kids and their families to enjoy a nice break. By the time I passed by the always-iconic Millenium Tree and attempted my third challenge of the outing, I saw even more friendly faces and plenty of determined expressions from kids exploring the trail.

Friends and families of all ages were on the route – from grandparents on a cherished trip to Disneyland with their grandchildren to an entire school of kids with a few counselors leading the way on a fun-filled class trip.

As someone who loves Pixar films and writes about all things Disney, I love keeping up with all the latest trends. Tom Lizard seems to have been everywhere lately, from t-shirts on DisneyStore.com to a new bundle in the Fortnite Shop, and even on our own Disney Parks Instagram. This brought me to the fourth challenge on the list: Don’t Be a Stranger (find another lizard on the trail and wave hello).

Once I was about halfway through my own Lizard seek-and-find quest and had spotted the Reptile Queens, I started to wonder exactly where our newest lizard friend was located. Yet as I began to turn a corner across from the Mt. Whitney Lookout, I spotted Tom Lizard’s dedicated signage near the Cliff Hang Traverse Rock on my way toward the “Decoder” mission. Aside from the actual challenges on the map, this small sign of this instant icon seemed to be a highlight for many beyond me – confirmed by a little girl nearby who continuously exclaimed “lizard, lizard, lizard” to her family.

After gliding past the Cliff Hang Traverse and setting off toward the Mt. Shasta Lookout, my next mission was to find a decoder to unlock a secret message from Tom Lizard. A cast member pointed me in the right direction toward this area, and once I crossed a bridge to get there, two decoder keys were located right next to a radio set on top of a table.

I discovered a handful of young families (with laser-focused little ones, locked into challenges on their own keepsake maps) in this area either waiting to slide down the Hoot-N-Holler Logs or using this decoder key to fill out one of the most critical challenges on their map, bringing a fun sense of energy to an otherwise peaceful setting in California Adventure.

It’s a small reminder that these restful moments often create lasting memories at Disneyland, and some of these simple pauses in the parks tend to stay with us long after the day is done.

With the Tom Lizard fun checked off my list, it was time to head toward the beaver dam for my final challenge on my seek-and-find map.

Journeying from the Mt. Shasta Lookout, past the Mt. Lassen Lookout Ranger Headquarters, and along the Quail Trail led me toward the Ahwahnee Camp Circle, where I spotted a figure of Mabel (one of the main characters from the film, voiced by Piper Curda) in a picture-perfect moment on top of the dam. Friendly cast members near this part of the trail encouraged picture-taking, marking one of the last steps on the route and making for a nice finishing touch on this Hoppers adventure.

From here, I found my way back to the trail entrance where another outgoing cast member greeted me. Once I returned my pencil and showed them Tom Lizard’s uncoded secret message, I was presented stickers to take home: one of Tom and one of Mabel that read “Challenge Complete!”

While I love the extra shade and both attractions in Grizzly Peak as an adult, one of my favorite parts about this area is that it reminds me of visits to California Adventure with my family as a kid. I can certainly recall several midday visits to the Spirit Cave and the Cliff Hangar Traverse Rock Climb when my parents needed a quick break from the ride-focused fun, stirring fond memories and evoking a sense of nostalgia.

It’s perfectly tucked away from some of the busier areas of the park and allows little ones to get up and move. And as someone who recently saw Hoppers in theaters and really appreciated the excitement and humor in the film, this felt like a great tie-in that nicely celebrates the spirit of the movie.

Starting March 22, Disneyland park will be serving up delicious delights the whole family will love, inspired by the beloved Bluey series and great for fueling up after a game of Keepy Uppy (or two).

Highlights include a mini all-beef hot dog kids meal, magic “asparagus” pretzel, and a Bluey sipper. See the full menu of Bluey food and beverages here on the Disney Parks Blog.

A selection of Bluey apparel will be available for purchase, featuring kids’ tees and a kids’ zip fleece. Pin fans can add Bluey and Bingo to their collections with a new pin and lanyard.

Bluey merchandise will be available at the following locations, while supplies last:

• World of Disney at the Downtown Disney District, beginning March 20
• Elias & Co. at Disney California Adventure park, beginning March 20
• Fantasyland Theatre Valet at Disneyland park, beginning March 22

More Bluey merchandise will arrive at Disneyland Resort at a later date, such as the Bluey and Bingo Create Your Own Headband plushes.
