Popular Disney Ride Sets Permanent Closure Timeline

One of Disney California Adventure’s most beloved dark rides is officially on borrowed time.

Monsters, Inc. Mike and Sulley to the Rescue!

While the attraction isn’t closing tomorrow, Disney fans now have a clearer picture of when they’ll need to plan a final ride. For guests who love visiting Monstropolis alongside Mike, Sulley, and Boo, the countdown is officially underway as Disneyland Resort continues its massive expansion efforts. Here’s what you need to know about the permanent closure timeline for Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! and what it means for the future of Disney California Adventure.

Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! Will Close in 2027

Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! will be permanently closing in 2027. The good news is that the timeline actually got extended. The ride was originally scheduled to close in early 2026, but Disney pushed the closure back to give guests more time with the attraction before it’s gone for good. Disney has not yet announced a specific closing date within 2027, so there’s no hard deadline to race against just yet, but the clock is definitely ticking.

Mike in Disney California Adventure (he doesn’t move)

The ride has been a fixture at DCA since 2006, and it’s a fan favorite, especially for families with younger kids. It’s the kind of attraction that sneaks up on you as a highlight of the day, so it’s worth making sure it’s on your list if you’re heading to the park before the end of next year.

Why Is the Ride Closing?

The closure is tied directly to the massive DisneylandForward expansion project, which is reshaping Disney California Adventure in a big way. The space where the Monsters, Inc. ride currently sits will eventually become a brand-new Avatar land, which Disney has confirmed will be inspired by the sequel films rather than replicating the existing Pandora at Animal Kingdom.

©Disney

The new Avatar area is expected to include at least one unique ride, described as an adventure boat ride, and is not anticipated to open for several more years (we’re still waiting on an exact timeline from Disney). So even after the Monsters, Inc. ride closes, guests will have a bit of a wait before the replacement land is up and running.

The Disneyland Expansion Is Just Getting Started. Here’s What Might Come Next…

The Extended Timeline Is a Win for Disneyland Guests

Here’s the thing: Disney didn’t just push back this closure randomly. Disneyland’s project management team found a way to sequence construction of the new Avengers Campus attractions, a new Coco boat ride, and the Avatar land without requiring the Monsters, Inc. ride to close on the original schedule or impacting the timeline for those new additions. That’s actually a pretty smart move, because it means fewer closures and more to do for guests visiting DCA during this heavy construction period.

Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue!

The focus on keeping the ride open a little longer also reflects Disney’s ongoing push to offer more for younger guests, since the Monsters, Inc. attraction has always been a strong draw for families with little ones.

What You Should Do Before It Closes

If you’ve got a trip on the horizon, this ride should be on your must-do list. The closure is still a ways out, but 2027 will arrive before you know it. Whether it’s your first time stepping into Monstropolis or your hundredth, this is one worth savoring before it’s gone.

Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue!

Disney is keeping a lot of plates spinning at Disneyland Resort right now, and changes are happening fast. Keep it locked right here to DFB for the latest updates on the Monsters, Inc. closure, the new Avatar land, and everything else going on at DCA.

This Classic Disney Ride Looks TOTALLY Different

When we’re at Disneyland, we love hopping on the Disneyland Railroad and taking a joyride around the park. There are so many amazing sights to see between New Orleans Square, ToonTown, and, of course, Main Street, U.S.A.

The Disneyland Railroad

But when we rode the Disneyland railroad yesterday, we noticed that one of our favorite scenes looks totally different!

We love the dinosaur scene of the Disneyland Railroad, where you can see Triceratops, T-rexes, and goats exploring the wilderness. But when we rode yesterday, this area was gone!

Dinos!

The scenes have now all been covered by a black tarp, and there are only cardboard cutouts of our favorite animals! It was a pretty disappointing ride compared to what we’re used to. You can watch our ride-through here:

DisneylandForward… Moving Forward, Here’s What You Need To Know!

It’s approved! Disneyland’s plans for new rides, lands, hotel rooms, and even a possible third park – called DisneylandForward – has required a long three-year journey towards approval from the city of Anaheim. But at a city council meeting on May 7th, 2024, the measure was unanimously approved. “For nearly seven decades, Disneyland Resort has […]

NEWS: Changes Hit Disneyland Park Hopping

Park Hopping just got EASIER in Disneyland. Yes, we are just as excited as you are.

Sleeping Beauty Castle in Disneyland

In Disneyland, Park Hopping lets you jump back and forth between Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure, but to do this, you need a Park Hopper ticket or a Magic Key pass, their version of Annual Passes. There used to be an 11 AM time limit: you couldn’t hop between parks until after 11 AM, but good news—that’s all changing.

Disney Vacation Planner

There is no longer an 11 AM waiting period to Park Hop, starting on June 9th. Yes!

Dale!

Now, it’s important to note that you might still need to make a park pass reservation, depending on which type of ticket you have. Magic Key Holders, this includes you! You’ll need to choose your park pass reservation for the first park that you are starting in and scanning into first.

Let’s go see Mickey!

This new rule change allows for so much more flexibility. Being able to hop back and forth in the morning is amazing. You can scan into Disneyland, rope drop one ride, and then head to Disney California Adventure for your next one.

Storybook Land Canal Boats

One thing we love about the change is that if reservations are full at one park, you can grab a spot at the other and head there immediately. Easy peasy!

NEWS: Disneyland Announces ANOTHER Ride Closure for This Summer

There is nothing worse than finding out your favorite attraction is closed for refurbishment just as you walk up to ride it. We always want you to be aware of any upcoming ride closures. So, if you’re planning a trip to Disneyland this summer, you’ve got to heed this warning!

Sleeping Beauty Castle in Disneyland

Several popular attractions are closing (or have already closed) for refurbishment. We always let you know when a ride is set to close, but it also helps to check the online refurbishment calendar before your trip. However, we’re here to warn you about another new ride closure that has been added to the list!

Click for your FREE Disneyland Snack Map

Disneyland has updated its online calendar to note that a refurbishment starts for the Matterhorn Bobsleds on July 20th. Currently, the Disneyland calendar only goes through July 21st, so it’s not clear when the refurbishment will end. There’s no additional information listed on the website at this time.

Matterhorn Bobsleds

On that same day, there are also refurbishments ongoing for Frontierland Shootin’ Exposition and Pirates of the Caribbean. Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters is currently closed in the park, but will reopen on June 12th. King Arthur Carrousel will also have a short closure this summer.

©Disney

Closures and refurbishments can be added to the Disneyland calendar at any time, though they usually show up at least a few weeks out. It’s a good idea to check the calendar a couple of times leading up to your trip to see if any planned closures could affect you. You’ll need to go to the “Day View” section of the calendar and scroll down until you see “Closed for Refurbishment.” Don’t forget to check both parks, Downtown Disney, and the hotels!

Small World!

Knowing which rides, attractions, or restaurants will be closed can help eliminate that last-minute disappointment when you arrive in the parks. It also might give you the flexibility to reschedule your trip to go at a time when your favorite offering will have reopened. Most of the time, these closures are just for planned maintenance, but occasionally, Disneyland will update rides or change them for the season. Haunted Mansion typically closes in late summer to become Haunted Mansion Holiday, an incredible The Nightmare Before Christmas overlay.

Haunted Mansion Holiday

Then, recently, we saw a brief closure at Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, where it was updated to include new missions themed to The Mandalorian and Grogu. The ride now has new scenes, missions, and planets available, featuring beloved Star Wars characters from the new movie and hit Disney+ series.

DISNEYLAND UPDATE: Bash Tickets, New Gateway & A Big Avengers Birthday

The theme park summer season has only just started, and Disneyland is already thinking about Halloween. REVIEW: Disneyland Dropped 4 New Snacks, and They Might Be The Prettiest We’ve Ever Seen

A new month means new treats all over the Disney parks, and YES, we get excited about that each and every time.

Time for new treats!

We headed over to Disneyland Resort as soon as we heard there were FOUR new treats for us to try, spanning both Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure. While we love the look of all four of them (gorgeous and FUN are great words for them all), we’ve got to admit that there was one of them that let us down in the taste department.

Over in DCA, we headed over to Trolley Treats for not one, but TWO new snacks, starting with the S’mores Marshmallow Wand for $8.29. Are these anything super special? Not really, it’s marshmallows on a stick and covered in chocolate, but we did love that this one had caramel and graham cracker as well, which really helped to bring that s’mores flavor forward. We do wish there was a bit more of the graham cracker to better balance out the s’mores flavor, but that was a minor complaint for a delicious treat.

S’mores Marshmallow Wand

You can also snag the Clarabelle Caramel Apple here for $16.49. This is a traditional caramel apple to its core — a Granny Smith Apple dipped in Caramel and Colored Chocolatey Coating, but with some extra goodies on top. Clarabelle’s nose is made from Nutter Butter, her horns are sour gummies, and she has additional marshmallow and chocolate decorations, too! If you love caramel apples, this is a must-grab, especially if you’re able to show Clarabelle for a fun photo op, like we did!

Clarabelle Caramel Apple

We also headed over to Bing Bong’s Sweet Stuff for the Refresher Flight for $10.29! This is where you can get four small drinks in one, which are great for hot days. Our favorite was the mango with popping mango pearls, which was super refreshing. The mango flavor was the same all around, so you’ve gotta really love mango for this one.

Refresher Flight

Our second favorite was the Cherry with Nerds, because it literally tasted like we were eating a Nerds rope. Third for us was the Blue Raspberry Pomegranate, because it was quite an interesting flavor combination. We loved the popping pomegranate tang flavor with the super sweet blue raspberry flavor, as they went super well together. Finally, the Apple Blueberry was another fun combo, because it tasted like we were drinking a frozen apple juice, and the blueberry was a fun additional fruit flavor. These are all VERY sweet, so prepare yourself for that, but we’re big fans!

Consider us big fans!

Then, over in Disneyland, we stopped by Jolly Holiday for the Rainbow Linzer Cookie for $7.49. While this treat was absolutely stunning, unfortunately, the taste wasn’t a winner. The shortbread had a pretty typical flavor, and we appreciated the size of them for the price, but the jam in the middle tasted very artificial. It wasn’t our favorite, but if you’re a fan of shortbread and don’t mind a more artificial jam, then you may love it!

The MAJOR Reason Why This Popular Disney Parade Isn’t Happening in 2026

Oogie Boogie Bash in Disney California Adventure is just a few short months away, and we’re already gearing up for tickets to go on sale on June 18th (though Magic Key Holders get early access on June 16th).

©Disney

It’s already been announced that there will be some pretty significant changes at the party this year, with one of the biggest being that the popular Frightfully Fun Parade won’t be taking place. Instead, Disney has added a new addition that highlights Madame Leota and Haunted Mansion, but what exactly is the reasoning behind the lack of parade? Well, once we heard it, we realized just how much it made sense.

Just a few days ago, Disney confirmed a few of the offerings coming to Oogie Boogie Bash this year, and their wording subtly announced that the new Madame Leota’s Swinging Wake – A Haunted Mansion Street Party would be replacing the iconic Frightfully Fun Parade this year. That’s certainly a bummer, as we love the parade (though we are looking forward to seeing what this new offering will look like), but what’s the reason for the change?

Frightfully Fun Parade

According to the Orange County Register, it’s believed that the reason for the lack of the parade this year is due to the current construction in the park on the new Coco attraction. As the Haunted Mansion section of the parade is many visitors’ favorite, we can totally see why Disney decided to center their new attraction all around that theming. From the concept art, it looks like we’ll get to see Madame Leota herself, as well as the grave diggers, ballroom dancers, cemetery caretaker, and, of course, some ghosts.

Frightfully Fun Parade

The new Coco attraction is expected to arrive in the area south of Boardwalk Pizza & Pasta and behind Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind, in a Paradise Gardens Park and Pixar Pier area that is predominantly backstage right now. This will be the first-ever Coco ride to exist, and while it may not seem like we can see a lot of construction right now, it’s possible that the issue for the parade would be the backstage space that’s currently under construction — those floats do take up a lot of space! All we know about the ride right now is that we’ll be joining Miguel on a special journey, seeing characters and hearing unforgettable songs from Coco on a trip to the Land of the Dead.

©Disney

Going to miss the Headless Horseman, who usually would ride down the parade route ahead of the rest of the floats? Don’t worry, Disney has confirmed that throughout the night, you’ll see Ichabod Crane hurry through the park as he tries to evade the sinister specter of the Headless Horseman astride his dark steed. Yes, that means we should be able to see BOTH characters, which is super unique!

This RARE Haunted Mansion Ride Evacuation Was NOT on My Bingo Card

Here at Disney Food Blog, we love Disneyland. The park’s iconic attractions can take you through a small world, soar in space, and tour a haunted mansion. But even the Happiest Place on Earth will experience some ride interruptions!

Haunted Mansion in Disneyland

That’s what happened to Disneyland guests riding the Haunted Mansion on Wednesday, May 27th, when they were forced to self-evacuate the ride by themselves! This interruption to the classic dark ride left guests fending for themselves in a twist that has left former Cast Members shaking their heads in disbelief.

According to the Orange County Register, the Haunted Mansion was evacuated on Wednesday, May 27th, after a small electrical malfunction on the track. Cast Members gave verbal instructions and were deployed to assist guests during the evacuation procedure. Guests were safely evacuated from the attraction, and no injuries were reported, according to Disneyland officials. But social media accounts tell a different story!

A video posted to Reddit by u/-sharc- showed Haunted Mansion riders squeezing out of their doom buggies and unlatching the clamshell doors on the ride vehicles to free other passengers during the emergency evacuation. “At first, the cast members advised people to remain seated and to wait to be escorted off the ride,” the user wrote on the Disneyland subreddit. “After about 10 minutes, the message changed, stating that the cast members could no longer assist us.”

“We ask that you hop out of your buggy and find the nearest exit,” a Haunted Mansion cast member said over the intercom system inside the attraction. “If you can, there is a latch on the left-hand side that you can press down to open the clamshell.” The video showed Disneyland visitors squeezing past the lap bars on the closed ride vehicles and walking around the Haunted Mansion cemetery set amid moving animatronic figures and props.

CHANGES Announced for Disneyland Parade and Fireworks

It’s crazy to think that Disneyland started its 70th Anniversary over a full year ago! The celebration brought tons of exclusive merchandise, food and beverages, and iconic shows. Out of everything to come, we’ve probably enjoyed the entertainment the most.

Paint the Night Parade

Lately, we’ve been trying to watch the shows as many times as we can as the party wraps up. Well, we can take a step back and breathe for a minute, because Disney just dropped some massive news that they’re extending these limited-time shows!

We were thrilled to see that Disney will be extending two shows that returned for the 70th anniversary, and the extension is a pretty decent one. It will be tough to say goodbye, as it was when they left before coming back for the celebration, but we still have a little extra time with them to enjoy!

Wondrous Journeys

Wondrous Journeys, the nighttime fireworks spectacular, has been extended to August 20th for guests to enjoy before the spooky season begins! The show is a tribute to the classic movies of Walt Disney Animation Studios that inspired the first Disney theme park.

This show is so cool!

The show is displayed on Sleeping Beauty Castle, Main Street, U.S.A., the Rivers of America, and the façade of “it’s a small world”! It features projections and fireworks and tons of iconic Disney characters, including those from Moana, Frozen, The Lion King, Hercules, Peter Pan, Encanto, and more. The very last performance of Wondrous Journeys will be on August 20th at 9:30 PM.

Wondrous Journeys

The Paint The Night parade is a fan favorite, and one that we were beyond thrilled to see return for Disneyland’s 70th anniversary, which began May 14th. The parade truly “paints the night” with LED lights on a dazzling display of floats. The parade features characters from Frozen, Monsters, Inc., Toy Story, Beauty and the Beast, and more. The stars of the parade are Tinker Bell and Sorcerer Mickey. It’s truly iconic!

Goofy and Donald

The parade was originally planned to run until the end of the celebration on August 9th, 2026, the same as the fireworks show. However, this show will also be staying until August 20th! To catch the last performances, you’ll want to be there on August 20th at 8:45 PM and 10:45 PM.

Paint the Night

It sucks to say goodbye, but when one door closes, another door opens. As the two shows leave Disneyland, Disney California Adventure will see the return of World of Color – ONE. The show will be back for a limited time, beginning on August 10th through the Halloween season. We don’t know much else beyond that, so we’ll be keeping an eye out for more details!

World of Color — ONE

We’re so happy we get even more time to check out those limited-time Disneyland shows before they leave. We’re always on top of all the latest Disney news and updates, so make sure to stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for more!

Disney CONFIRMS Snacks for Halloween 2026

Halloween at Disneyland is coming soon! This season comes with rare characters, spooky parades, and free candy – but here at Disney Food Blog, we can’t forget about all of the food!

Haunted Heatwave Pizza

Disney just confirmed some of the Halloween menus are coming back for 2026, and we just got a sneak peek!

Click for your FREE Disneyland Snack Map

The Heatwave Pizza from Alien Pizza Planet is returning this year! This is a pizza with spiced blush sauce topped with mozzarella and pepper jack, Italian sausage, classic and crispy cupped pepperoni, smoked bratwurst, and sliced red Fresno chiles, garnished with basil and hot honey drizzle.

Haunted Heatwave Pizza

This is basically a meat-lover’s pizza with a bit of sweet heat from the hot honey, but it wasn’t as hot as we were expecting. Without paying attention, it’s kind of hard to make out what’s what, as everything just kinda tastes like a spicy sausage or pepperoni from the hot honey and chili flakes. We did enjoy it overall, but just know it won’t knock your socks off!

Haunted Heatwave Pizza

Also returning this year is the Oogie Boogie Lemonade from Smokejumpers Grill. This non-alcoholic drink is made with Green Apple Minute-Maid Lemonade, cherry-flavored popping spheres, and raspberry sauce.

©Disney

Plus, the Slow Burnin’ Mac & Cheese Cone is coming back to Disney California Adventure at the Cozy Cone Motel 3 – Chili Cone Queso. This is fresh-cooked pasta tossed with a spicy red pepper cheese sauce in a bread cone topped with crushed chile-cheese puffs!

Slow-Burning Mac and Cheese

We think this cauldron is pumpernickel bread, which explains the dark colored dough. But pumpernickel isn’t our jam, so this wasn’t a win for us. Inside this cauldron is macaroni in a spicy red pepper cheese sauce. It’s definitely got a fiery hue. It is, indeed, spicy, which is great if you love heat! The bright red topping is crushed red chile-cheese puffs (which are basically Flamin’ Hot Cheetos!). They add a little textural interest, but there’s just not much of it on there. Gimme more, please! Overall, the Slow Burnin’ Mac and Cheese Cone was just okay, which is a bummer because it had so much potential!

Everything NEW Confirmed for Disney’s Oogie Boogie Bash This Year

Let’s just skip straight through summer and start thinking about fall, specifically Halloween Time in Disneyland. Now, it’s my opinion that Halloween Time in Disneyland is the BEST time in Disneyland because Disneyland goes ALL out for the spookiest holiday of the year.

Oogie Boogie at Oogie Boogie Bash

That includes the special ticketed event Oogie Boogie Bash, which is so popular that all of the parties sell out within DAYS. There is already so much to see, do, and eat at Oogie Boogie Bash, but Disney just confirmed something NEW will be coming to this year’s party.

Oogie Boogie Bash is happening on select nights in Disney California Adventure from August 18th through October 31st from 6 P.M. to 11 P.M. Tickets go on sale on June 18th at 9 A.M. PST, although Magic Key Holders will be able to purchase a limited number of tickets early, on June 16th. Ticket prices range from $139 to $199, depending on the date. Tickets include unlimited PhotoPass downloads, as well as entry into the park as early as 3 P.M.

Something NEW is coming to this year’s party: Madame Leota’s Swinging Wake – A Haunted Mansion Street Party. This party will bring iconic moments from the Haunted Mansion to the streets of California Adventure. It will feature multiple “moments for Madame Leota to host her spirited séance and swinging wake filled with happy haunts, ghostly dancing, and ghoulish delight, inviting you to partake in a ghastly good time that beckons all 999 ghosts.”

This year, the Oogie Boogie Bash Dessert Party will offer something new: a preferred viewing area for Madame Leota’s Swinging Wake.

Disney also confirmed what would be returning to this year’s party, including the Villains Grove, the treat trails, character experiences, and a free event guide. The Oogie Boogie Bash VIP Tour will also return, starting on August 30th. This VIP Tour includes both Park Hopper admission and event tickets to Oogie Boogie Bash, but you’ll also get a dedicated VIP tour guide who will customize your experience around your priorities and must-dos.

Park Hopping Rule Change Hits Disneyland Next Week

When it comes to park hopping, Disneyland blows Disney World out of the water, despite an annoying complication. Well, after years of said annoying complication, it’s about to get even easier to bounce between Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure!

DCA Entrance

When the Disneyland theme parks reopened after the 2020 pandemic closures, a morning restriction was placed on park hopping between the two parks, which created some annoying limitations. While the change was billed as temporary, it’s stuck around all the way into 2026. However, that restriction is FINALLY about to lift — and most folks are excited about the change!

Beginning June 9th, 2026, Disneyland Resort guests with Park Hopper tickets and Magic Key passes can go between the two parks any time during operational hours!

Disneyland

Until next week, guests had to select which park they wanted to visit first during the reservation process, and then they couldn’t park hop until 11 AM. That rule will now be gone.

That doesn’t mean the reservation system is gone, however. Guests will still need to make a park pass reservation and indicate which park they plan on starting in.

Disney California Adventure

The ability to park hop is subject to availability, so Disney still wants to get headcounts to get an idea of how many people will be at the parks and which park might be more popular. Either way, if neither park is at max capacity, it won’t really matter which park you select first anymore.

This flexibility is reminiscent of a time before the pandemic, when Disneyland was famous for its go-with-the-flow vibe. While the reservation system still controversially remains, the easing of the park hopping returns this relaxed vibe — even if it’s just a little bit. The ability to change your schedule on a whim and not worry about rules is not taken for granted among Disneyland visitors and Magic Key passholders.

A Word of WARNING If You’re Heading to Disneyland in July

Disneyland Resort has seen quite a few closures lately, with rides, restaurants, and more undergoing refurbishments.

Sleeping Beauty Castle

While some rides have recently reopened, Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters, Silly Symphony Swings, and even the Disneyland Monorail are all still closed for refurbishment. Unfortunately, it looks like the list of Disneyland closures is getting even longer, as we spotted two more calendar updates that might impact your next trip.

If you’ve got an upcoming Disneyland trip planned, make sure you pay attention to these new closures! The Frontierland Shootin’ Exposition — where you can take aim and fire at nearly 100 targets during an old-time Wild West shootout — will be closing on July 6th with no current reopening date listed on the Disneyland website.

Frontierland Shootin’ Exposition

Not only that, but it looks like the Tinker Bell meet and greet at Pixie Hollow may also be closing for refurbishment. Though nothing is listed on the refurbishment calendar at this time, it shows no times available from July 5th to as far as the calendar goes

This could just mean that the calendar has not yet been updated with meet-and-greet times after July 5th, but it might also mean that this meet-and-greet location will be closing for refurbishment. Either way, we’ll be sure to keep an eye on things and let you know of any changes.

Tinker Bell

Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters closed on April 13th with no set reopening date. On the Disneyland ride, you’ll take aim and fire your laser to defeat Zurg during a thrilling space battle!

Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters

In addition, the Silly Symphony Swings closed on April 27th with no confirmed reopening date. The Paradise Gardens Park ride takes you into the air to see Disney California Adventure from above!

Silly Symphony Swings

We’ll be on the lookout for even more Disneyland updates you need to know about. In the meantime, make sure you stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for the latest Disney news and more!
